Migrating from Wordpress to Hugo

I was tired of Wordpress

I was tired of Wordpress. I was tired of the constant updates, the security vulnerabilities, and the slow performance. I wanted a faster, more efficient way to manage my blog. That’s when I discovered Hugo. I also appreciated the simplicity of its setup and the speed of its static site generation.

I gave it a test first

This is not the only website I have. I administrate a couple of others and I use various platforms, stretching from raw HTML + CSS to expensive wordpress hostings. I decided to give Hugo a try on one of my smaller sites to see how it performed. So my first test was the website for the podcast Γλώσσα Γλώσσα Cloud (by the way, if you speak Greek, give it a try). It took me a while to understand how to set it up, with categories, posts and everything but not more than a day or two. Splendid!

Migrating

Thank God I decided to do that in the age of AI. So the only manual work I do is to copy the images (featured and others) in each post-directory, then I copied the outer HTML from each post, ask Github Copilot to convert it to markdown and that’s pretty much all of it.

Purge

I saw that process as an opportunity to do a …spring clean as well. I have been posting less frequently, and it felt like a good time to reassess my content and remove anything that no longer resonates with my current focus. You will not see any more posts about podcast-episodes (there are dedicated pages for that) or my conferences appearances (shoutout: Sessionize!). I also removed some posts that were outdated or no longer relevant. I want to focus on the content that truly matters to me and my audience.

PS

I am excited about this new chapter in my blogging journey. I hope you enjoy the new look and feel of my blog, and I look forward to sharing more content with you in the future. Thank you for being a part of this journey! And hey, use the feedback form to let me know what you think, I am desperate for your input!
